Journal of the Optical Society of America A Feature Announcement

Visual and Physiological Optics

Submissions Open: 1 October 2018

Submission Deadline: 15 November 2018

This JOSA A feature issue is based on the 9th Visual and Physiological Optics meeting (VPO 2018), to be held in Athens, Greece, 29-31 August 2018 (https://vpoptics.net). VPO meetings bring together researchers, students, and clinical professionals from around the world to present their latest innovations in the fields of optics, optometry, and vision sciences. Whereas meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit their work, this feature issue is open to all contributions.

Visual and Physiological Optics is a broad topic so this feature issue will highlight research that pertains to the optics of the eye, quality of vision, and straylight in the human eye, as well as intraocular lens design and performance, and the optics of imaging and other diagnostic devices in ophthalmology.

Specific topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Refraction and wavefront aberrations
  • Eye modelling
  • Adaptive optics
  • Ocular biomechanics
  • Refractive correction
  • Scattering and straylight
  • Cornea and tear film
  • Crystalline lens
  • Intraocular lenses (IOLs)
  • Retinal and subretinal layers
  • Subjective and objective retinal image quality
  • Innovative eye diagnostics

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work, and will be subject to the normal standards and peer-review process of the journal. To be eligible for publication, any paper from a VPO participant needs to be expanded, revised, and/or refined to add value to the original conference summary. See OSA's policy on expanded conference papers here.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to JOSA A and must be uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system. When submitting, please specify that the manuscript is for the Visual and Physiological Optics feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
